DSSP, CGAD continue advocacy on VAWC through Juana Film Fest

Rooted in fortifying justice and equal opportunities across all genders and in adherence to the 2024 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC), the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy (DSSP) in partnership with the UNP Center for Gender and Development (UNP-CGAD) administered the Juana Film Festival on December 10, at the College of Teacher Education Function Hall.

The theme for the affair was “United Stories Lead to Stronger Voices: Advocating a Safer Now” which provided an avenue for all students enrolled in Gender and Society (SocSci 104) to take part in addressing violence and discrimination faced by the marginalized genders, particularly women and children, thereby fostering inclusivity and equality.

Out of 16 total Juana Film Festival entries, five emerged as grand winners. The first place was nabbed by the film “Stronger Together,” followed by the second placer, “Ragpat.” Meanwhile, the third spot was granted to “Are you G?,” succeeded by the fourth placer “Shadows of White Silence,” and the fifth spot was garnered by “Dungo.”

On the other hand, “Bannawang ti Puso” grabbed special awards, including Best Male Artist (Filadelfo Castillo Prades III), Best Female Artist (Katehon Biscarra), Best Female Supporting Artist (Trisha May Valencia), and Best in Video Film Title.

Mark Janssen Abuel of “Lingid” was Best Male Supporting Artist. On the other hand, Best in Advocacy was “Shadows of White Silence,” Best in Screen Play was “Dungo,” and Best Script was “Ragpat.”

The event was inaugurated through the opening remarks of Dr. Chase Mark S. Suyat (DSSP head), followed by the message of the guest speaker, Atty. Katrynne Louise R. Eder (CGAD director). Also, the rationale of the undertaking was delivered by Mr. Florentino Garcia Jr.

Additionally, the judges were Mr. Christian S. Domondon, Atty. Benmar O. Tabuso, and Atty. Christian A. Casildo.
