PNPKI orientation, cybersecurity awareness campaign held at UNP
The Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI) Orientation and Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign was held at the UNP Tadena Hall on November 26, 2024.
Aiming to improve digital security literacy among the University community, the event was organized by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region I Cybersecurity Bureau in partnership with UNP’s Information and Communications Technology Office (ICTO) and the College of Communication and Information Technology.
Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, UNP President, delivered his message, emphasizing the shared responsibility of cybersecurity. “Cybersecurity is not just an IT department responsibility – it’s a shared commitment that requires vigilance from every member of our UNP community,” he said.
Engr. Kneil Raven P. Paz, from DICT, opened the technical discussions by introducing PNPKI. He explained its significance in securing online communication, verifying identities, and protecting the integrity and confidentiality of digital transactions.
The participants were guided by Mr. Jay R. dela Peña, from DICT, through the steps to avail certificates and provided a live demonstration, offering hands-on insights into using this technology effectively.
Concluding the technical sessions, Mr. Ian Andrei Doronio, from DICT, discussed cybersecurity awareness. He reminded participants to stay alert in the face of changing digital dangers and underlined the necessity of taking proactive steps to protect systems, data, and personal information from cyberattacks.
Participants also engaged in activities such as downloading and installing PNPKI certificates, applying their practical understanding of technology.
Dr. Shareen A. Navarro, director of the ICTO, appreciated the resource speakers and attendees for their active participation and emphasized the need for ongoing cooperation to safeguard digital environments.
The PNPKI Orientation and Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign is part of UNP’s efforts of equipping its community with the tools and knowledge to navigate the challenges of a digital world securely.
