Rabies kills: Know the signs, prevent the spread!

A single bite can be deadly, but rabies is easily preventable. This March, Rabies Awareness Month, shines a spotlight on this often-overlooked threat. Rabies, a viral disease that attacks the nervous system, is transmitted through the bite or scratch of an infected animal, most commonly dogs.

The good news is that rabies is 100% preventable through vaccination. Vaccinating your pets and seeking immediate medical attention if bitten or scratched by an animal are important steps in preventing rabies. The local veterinary clinics are offering free rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats. Take advantage of this opportunity to protect your pets and your community.

Rabies is responsible for around 300 deaths annually in the Philippines. Symptoms include fever, headache, and weakness, followed by more serious neurological symptoms such as confusion, hallucinations, and paralysis. Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, making prevention efforts critical.

Give your furry friends the protection they deserve. Vaccinate them against rabies. It’s a matter of life and love. 💕
