The University and Research Development Office (URDO) of the University of Northern Philippines (UNP), led by Dr. Edelyn A. Cadorna, spearheaded the “UNP Community Outreach Program: Coastal Clean-Up Drive and Tree Planting” on October 17, 2024, at Sitio Mindoro, San Sebastian, San Vicente, Ilocos Sur. The event, which gathered URDO research center chiefs, coordinators, and staff, was part of the larger UNP community outreach initiative in celebration of the university’s 59th founding anniversary. This extension activity plays a crucial role in addressing environmental challenges, raising awareness about the importance of protecting marine ecosystems, and promoting sustainable practices. By engaging URDO personnel in cleaning the coastline and planting trees, the initiative supports long-term environmental sustainability. The activity aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13: Climate Action and SDG 14: Life Below Water, contributing to climate change mitigation and the preservation of marine ecosystems. Through this effort, UNP reaffirms its commitment to environmental stewardship and deeper community involvement.
