The Guidance and Counseling Services under the Student Welfare Services Office facilitated the Gender Sensitivity Training and Work-Life Balance Seminar for the employees of the local government unit of Alilem, Ilocos Sur on March 28, 2025 at the municipal multi-purpose hall.
The event aimed to promote awareness and equip participants with strategies to address workplace challenges related to gender dynamics.
The team from the University of Northern Philippines included Ms. Glenny Angellica Barrientos, Guidance Counselor, who facilitated the gender sensitivity training—focusing on the basic concepts of gender and development, understanding gender biases and issues, and the importance of gender-fair language in creating a gender-sensitive workplace; Dr. Rodel Rosario, Assistant Head of the GCS office, shared practical tools in achieving work-life balance; and Ms. Sarah Alcayaga, Guidance Counselor, underscored how the different genders experience stress and concluded her discussion with a guided mindful meditation session.
Hon. Velmor Sumabat, Municipal Mayor, delivered an inspiring message during the opening program, reminding the LGU employees that what they learned during the sessions should not end with them, instead, they should work on spreading awareness and achieving a gender-sensitive Alilem.
The interactive discussions left the attendees empowered with tools for achieving a balanced and equitable work environment and eager to share what they learned in their communities.
