UEO honors the elderly at Balay Taripato

The University Extension Office showcased a heartwarming display of inclusivity and community service through a special outreach program at Balay Taripato in Magsingal, Ilocos Sur on October 17, 2024.

This is in line with the 59th founding anniversary of the University of Northern Philippines. The collaborative effort, spearheaded by the University Extension Office, alongside with the Laboratory Services Offices and Bulalayao Organization, aimed to strengthen ties with the local community and honor the wisdom of the elderly. The event brought together UNP staff, students, and residents of the facility.

The activity began with a heartwarming act of service. The members of the Bulalayao Organization, an LGBTQIA+ organization, provided haircuts to all elderly residents. This gesture improved their appearance and served as a symbol of respect and care.

There was also a lively socialization celebration that took place which featured performances by two talented residents. The event became more vibrant through a community dance where participants of all ages joined together in a shared experience of joy and unity.

As a token of appreciation for the elderly residents, the UNP team distributed hygiene kits and grocery items. The smiles on the faces of the recipients spoke volumes about the impact of this gesture.

The staff of Balay Taripato expressed their sincere gratitude to UNP for including them in the founding anniversary celebrations. They emphasized the importance of recognizing the wisdom of the elderly, who have played a crucial role in shaping the generations of today.
