The University of Northern Philippines (UNP), in collaboration with the Directorate of International Affairs of Assam Down Town University (ADTU), Guwahati, India, successfully held an international webinar on “Labor Productivity in Metro Vigan Road Construction and the Strategies for Improvement” on August 22, 2025.
The virtual event brought together faculty members, researchers, and students to explore the labor productivity in Metro Vigan’s Road construction projects. It aimed to generate practical solutions addressing workforce efficiency, technological applications, and project management practices in the Philippine construction sector.
During the webinar, Engr. Gaylord A. Frando, Assistant Dean and BSCE Program Head of the UNP College of Engineering, presented their research with Dr. Nelia Verzosa, Dean of the UNP College of Engineering, on labor productivity and strategies for improvement. His discussion underscored the challenges faced by local construction workers and emphasized the importance of training programs, adherence to safety standards, and the integration of modern construction methods to improve efficiency and project outcomes.
Officials from ADTU highlighted that the event strengthened academic linkages between India and the Philippines, especially with the University of Northern Philippines, fostering collaboration on pressing issues in engineering and infrastructure. The exchange of knowledge and best practices provided participants with fresh perspectives that could be applied to both local and international contexts.
