UNP celebrates Founder’s Day : A day of reflection and inspiration
The University of Northern Philippines celebrated the 114th birth anniversary of the late Hon. Floro S. Crisologo on July 29, 2024, at Tadena Hall. This annual event honors the life and contributions of the esteemed congressman, who played a significant role in the establishment of UNP.
The celebration not only commemorates Crisologo’s achievements but also inspires current and future generations to uphold his vision for the university and the broader community. The UNP community continues to celebrate his legacy, ensuring that his contributions to education and public service are not forgotten.
The event started with a mass, which was attended by university officials, faculty and staff. The mass served as a moment of reflection and gratitude for Crisologo’s legacy, emphasizing the values he instilled in the institution.
Following the mass, Dr. Rolando Navarro, Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), delivered his welcome remarks, stressing the importance of remembering the founder’s vision and contributions to education and community development. His words set a tone of gratitude and reflection for the event.
Dr. Erwin Cadorna, the UNP President, shared a heartfelt message highlighting the enduring legacy of Crisologo. He encouraged the UNP community to carry forward the values and aspirations that the founder infused in the university, reinforcing the commitment to excellence and service within the community.
The Floro S. Crisologo Lecture, then took place, featuring Hon. Janina Carine Medina-Fariñas, City Councilor, as the guest lecturer. Her topic, titled, “CommYOUnity: Finding Yourself in Uniting, Nurturing and Promoting Change,” resonated with the participants, highlighting the importance of community engagement and personal growth in effecting positive change.
The event wrapped up with closing words from Dr. Mario P. Obrero, Faculty Union President, who expressed gratitude for the involvement of the community and how Crisologo’s principles are still relevant in today’s world. His remarks served as a nudge towards embracing our shared duty in preserving the founder’s vision and nurturing a spirit of unity and advancement, among all members of the university community.
