UNP ends title drought, clinches SCUAA Men’s Volleyball gold

The UNP Sharks rose to victory in the SCUAA 1 2025 Volleyball Men’s championship, overcoming the home-court advantage of the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) Stallions in a gripping four-set battle at the MMSU Gymnatorium on February 28, 2025.

Led by team captain Cregie Boy Valera Brillantes, the Sharks displayed resilience, teamwork, and unyielding determination to claim the gold.The match saw intense exchanges, particularly in the third set, where MMSU led 22-17. Despite the deficit, UNP fought back, but the Stallions secured the set at 25-22. Undeterred, the Sharks regrouped in the fourth set, showing greater unity and focus. With a 23-20 lead, UNP intensified their aggression, determined to seize the championship. Their relentless effort paid off as they clinched the fourth set 25-22, sealing determination for Gold. This victory marks the end of an eight-year title drought for UNP in this event.

National Coach, Leo Baja, who meticulously corrected errors throughout the game, expressed overwhelming joy after the win. “All our efforts have paid off,” he said, celebrating the team’s triumph.

The championship squad included standout athletes Rolly Rabang Altuna Jr., Ray Vincent De Jesus Palero, Khris Austin Hope Pepito, Jorell Alfred Bayudang Alimari, Marvin Gasmen Rivas, Emil John Viloria Bulso, Luc Ellehcer Buenaventura, Joshua Angelo Cabjuan Peralta, Sean Lhander Pere, Domenden John Paul Manaois, Kelvin Paul Gonzales Ilmeng, Reigne Kyle Canias Borja, Denver Nathaniel Martinez Rabang, and Gayle John Concepcion.

Guided by Coaches Leo Baja, Ace Ferrer, and Joedethe Rabara, the UNP Sharks’ triumph in volleyball further solidifies the university’s growing dominance in SCUAA 2025 competitions.
