The University of Northern Philippines intensified its push for inclusive, community-empowering education as it rolled out Session 6 of the Mathematics Literacy for Gainful Activities for Young and All (MaLiGaYA) Project at Puro National High School on March 16, 2026—advancing its mission to equip learners with practical numeracy skills for real-life opportunities.
The program, jointly implemented by UNP’s Master of Arts in Mathematics Education and Bachelor of Secondary Education programs, provided targeted and personalized learning experiences in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and problem-solving. It was led by Dr. Maria Theresa Forneas, Dr. Anastacia Joven, Dr. Jose Pichay, Dr. Mercita Queddeng, Dr. Nancy Ubilas, Dr. Novelyn Barcena, Dr. Juvie Lynne Almachar, and Mr. Lester Aaron.
Through a combination of collaborative group learning sessions and targeted one-on-one tutoring, Grades 7 to 9 students were provided with responsive and learner-centered support designed to bridge learning gaps and strengthen their grasp of fundamental concepts. The initiative reflects the Ilocano value of panangtulungan, underscoring a shared commitment to compassion, solidarity, and collective responsibility in fostering academic success.
The program expects improved math proficiency, increased confidence, and a more inclusive school environment.
The activity aligns with UN SDGs, promoting quality education (SDG 4), gender equality (SDG 5), reduced inequalities (SDG 10), and strong institutions (SDG 16). It fosters inclusive learning, empowering students and building socially responsible communities.
