“Stronger minds, stronger teams: A seminar on mental well-being cum team building” was the theme of this year’s team building activity of the non-teaching personnel and some faculty members with administrative function of the University of Northern Philippines held in Ynad’s Place Hotel and Resort in San Fernando City, La Union on December 13-14, 2024. This event brought together over 150 personnel united for a common goal to generate greater productivity.

Dr. Erwin Cadorna, the University President, emphasized the vital role of non-teaching staff in achieving various awards and enhancing UNP’s international reputation. He acknowledged their contributions to maintaining a supportive learning environment by managing administrative tasks and providing essential student services. Dr. Cadorna stated, “You fulfill a wide range of responsibilities which are essential in creating an environment conducive to effective teaching and learning.”

Mr. Albert Tejero, Vice President for Finance and Administration, highlighted the importance of cooperation among staff members. He expressed that this activity would foster appreciation and a sense of value among participants, stating that it would help develop their teamwork skills.

The highlight of the activity was the lecture of Ms. Kristina Camille Pacris-Quitevis entitled “Detect, act, prevent: A Seminar on Mental health on the workplace.”

As a gesture of gratitude to the personnel who are retiring from service on January, the staff of units with retiring colleague had their surprise. Mrs Jane Leones (human resource management office), Mrs. Laura Azurin (registrar), Mr. June Fieldad, and Mr. Gilbert Segismundo, both University drivers, were greeted on their upcoming retirement.  

In the afternoon and in second day was a team building activity facilitated by Dr. Marifel Acena and the Guidance Services Office staff. The activity aimed at establishing and maintaining team trust and effective decision making.

The team building activity is a bi-annual undertaking of the UNP non-teaching personnel organized by the Human Resource Management Office, the last was held last March at the Paradise Viewdeck Resort in San Juan, Ilocos Sur.
