UNP joins province-wide commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan

The University of Northern Philippines, led by University President Dr. Erwin Cadorna along with members of the Administrative Council, joined the commemoration of the 83rd Araw ng Kagitingan on April 9, 2025, at the Plaza Salcedo, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.

Organized by the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur, the ceremony carried the theme “Kabayanihan ng Beterano: Sandigan ng Katatagan, Gabay sa Pagkakaisa at Kapayapaan para sa Bagong Pilipinas,” honoring the valor and sacrifices of Filipino veterans during World War II.

The tribute began with a wreath-laying led by Ilocos Sur Governor Hon. Jeremias “Jerry” Singson, followed by floral offerings from various national government agencies in the province. A 21-gun salute by the Philippine National Police rendered military honors to the nation’s fallen heroes. Following the ceremony, a commemorative program was held at the Provincial Farmers Livelihood and Development Center, where 15 living World War II veterans of Ilocos Sur were honored. Their presence served as a powerful reminder of the bravery, resilience, and patriotism that shaped the country’s history. In his message, Governor Singson emphasized the importance of remembering the nation’s heroes: “May this celebration also serve as a reminder for all of us that it is our shared responsibility to preserve the memory of our heroes.” he said.

The event highlighted not only the historic significance of Araw ng Kagitingan but also the province’s continued recognition of its living veterans—true symbols of courage and national pride.

UNP’s participation in the annual observance reflects its deep commitment to honoring Filipino heritage and instilling values of patriotism and service among its academic community.
