UNP launches ‘From Catch to Cash’ training to boost livelihood opportunities in Caoayan

The College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA) through its B.U.S.I.N.E.S.S. in the Communities program, held a training event titled Kakibin ti Pagrang-ayan: From Catch to Cash in Pantay Tamurong National High School, Tamurong, Caoayan, Ilocos Sur, on March 18, 2025.

The training aimed to equip participants with practical skills in fish embutido production while fostering an entrepreneurial mindset for sustainable livelihood opportunities. By providing hands-on experience in product innovation and business strategies, the initiative sought to empower participants to maximize the economic potential of locally available fish resources.

Organized by Dr. Erwin Tolbe, Dean, and Dr. Richel Royce Chan, with coordination from Dr. Eileen Rose Paculan, CBAA faculty, and Prof. May Evelia Ruadap, UNP Extension Coordinator, the event featured a combination of skill-building and business exploration sessions.

Renowned business expert Mr. Aristotle Piamonte delivered a presentation on business opportunities, offering participants insights into economic growth and practical ways to expand their livelihood options.

Meanwhile, trainers Mr. Jayson Talaña, Ms. Reima Rei Cadaoas, and Ms. Rhosel Ann Castro provided comprehensive demonstrations on fish embutido making, sharing innovative techniques and best practices.

Ms. Karen Calaycay served as the facilitator and documenter, ensuring the smooth conduct of the activities and capturing the essential highlights of the event.

The Kakibin ti Pagrang-ayan project is part of the University’s continued efforts to promote sustainable fisheries, enhance income-generating activities, and contribute to community development. By encouraging entrepreneurship and practical skills, the training aims to create new livelihood opportunities and empower the people of Caoayan.
