UNP reigns in Men’s Basketball Championship, the winning streak continues

The UNP Men’s Basketball Team has established a reputation for excellence and sportsmanship in the SCUAA tournaments. With an undefeated record since 2020, their consistent performance speaks volumes.

They were back-to-back-to back champions in the R1 SCUAA Meet starting in 2020, followed by its continuous winning streak from 2022 up to 2024, this year, UNP, again, demonstrates its dominance after a nail-biting fight against MMSU, where UNP remains unbeatable. In 2023, they secured the National SCUAA championship. During the First CHED All-Star Friendship Games in 2024 they also claimed the silver medal, being the first runner-up.

James Pacaoan delivered an impressive 18-point performance, earning the Finals MVP title and spearheading the team’s offensive dominance in a commanding 91-67 victory over the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) Stallions to claim the Basketball Men’s 5×5 championship at SCUAA 2025.

From the first quarter, UNP set the tone with an 18-16 lead, which they steadily built upon with 26 and 28 points in the second and third periods, respectively. Their impressive offense and strong defense sealed the game in the fourth quarter, securing Gold.

The championship squad included John Jasper Andres (Tournament Most Valuable Player), Nhoel Osalvo, Leemar Jester Pamani, Cris Emmanuel Tagorda, Jose Emmanuel Talledo, Nathan Rey Rodillas, James Pacaoan, Dale Jovan Paiste, Andreev Rafanan, Jericho Saribay, Jaden Tabura, and Edyson Cabreros.

UNP President Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna was present to witness and support the team’s triumph, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. The coaching staff, led by Prof. Vincent Palma, head coach, alongside with assistant coaches, Atty. Gerwin Rabang, Prof. Carlo Ventura, Prof. Chasen Almazan, and Prof. Edgar Aquino. Mr. Paul Joshua Valencia, and Mr. Charlotte Almazan, served as support, they played a crucial role in guiding the team to victory.

With this victory, UNP has showcased its dominance in basketball and proving once again its skill, teamwork, and determination.
