UNP holds 7th Regional Research Congress
The University of Northern Philippines (UNP), in partnership with the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), holds the 7th Regional Research Congress at Tadena Hall, University of Northern Philippines on September 26-27, 2024.
Spearheaded by the University Research and Development Office (URDO) headed by its director, Dr. Edelyn A. Cadorna, this research congress marked its seventh leg, with participants from Ilocos Sur, La Union, Ilocos Norte, and Abra.
Attendees also came from Kalinga, Isabela, Palawan, the National Capital Region, Mindanao, and the United States of America attending via online platforms and awaiting their opportunity to present their research studies for progressive and inclusive development.
With the theme “Building Collaborative Efforts in Research and Innovation for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth,” the said congress aims to gather brilliant researchers, academics, and scholars from various fields and allow them to present, discuss, and share their research findings. It also aimed to create a culture wherein knowledge, innovation, and collaboration are fostered through research and development.
Dr. Fatima Rocamora, UNP Vice President for Research and Extension, warmly welcomed the participants.
“The conduct of this research congress indicates that we are making research a way of life, and the theme suggests the need and importance for researchers, academics, and practitioners to exchange ideas and discuss their innovative works and foster collaboration to attain a better quality of life for all,” Dr. Rocamora said.
“As we learn, explore, and discover, I encourage each of you to connect. Share your insights, and embrace the spirit of inquiry that defines our research community. Let us continue inspiring one another and let us make this congress a memorable learning experience,” she ended.
UNP President, Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, inspired the participants and encouraged them in their efforts in the pursuit of research and development.
“Today, we have a unique opportunity to break down the silos that often separate different disciplines. Cross-pollination of ideas can lead to unexpected and groundbreaking results. Thus, I encourage each of you to step outside your comfort zone, and engage with researchers from diverse backgrounds,” Dr. Cadorna said.
“Do absorb new information like a sponge, share your knowledge generously, and create connections that will last long after this event concludes. Together, we have the power to shape the future of research, and make a lasting impact on our communities,” he added.
DMMMSU Vice President for Research, Development, and Innovation, Dr. Angelina Gonzales, expressed that in their quest for sustainable and inclusive growth, the researchers should remember that no single idea or effort can address the complex challenges of today. Each has his/her respective roles to play.
“By sharing our diverse perspectives and expertise, we not only enhance our research but also create solutions that uplift communities. We must embrace the spirit of partnership. Reach out, listen, and learn from one another.” She added.
Gracing the University of Northern Philippines for the first time, the Regional Director of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), Dr. Stephanie Christiansen, served as the keynote speaker.
“This research congress is a celebration of the power of research in achieving this nation’s goals of economic and social transformation. Thank you for your contribution to the deepening and expanding of knowledge,” Dr. Christiansen said.
“Life taught me that through small and simple things, great things are achieved. Similarly, what you think is a small contribution to development has in fact, a multiplier effect in improving the lives of people. Indeed, research is at the heart of development where decisions have to be evidence-based, considering the limited resources amidst the expanding wants and needs of the people,” she added.
A total of 152 research papers will be presented by 187 participating researchers in different fields from administration and supervision, health, teaching and learning, business, technology and industry, environment and product development, and social science. 12 winners—six best research papers and six best research presenters combined—will be awarded during the closing and awarding ceremony on September 27, 2024.
