The University of Northern Philippines was recognized through a Sikap Award (Special Citation) from the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center I of the Department of Agriculture in Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan on February 7, 2024.
Received by Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, the award recognizes UNP as an Academe Partner Implementer for the Year 2023, particularly in its “exemplary and unwavering support in the implementation of the center’s FY 2023 Programs, Projects, and Activities, thereby contributing to the excellent delivery of agriculture and fisheries extension services in the region.”
The program is part of the 37th Founding Anniversary of the center with the theme “Innovate, Collaborate, Succeed: Growing Together for a Sustainable Future.”
UNP’s recognition is a testament of its sustainable extension programs particularly designed for the farmers and fisherfolk of Ilocos Sur and nearby provinces. One instance is the oyster mushroom production made possible in partnership with SUCs, LGUs, and other research institutions in Region I. The project did not only provide food to thousands of families, but also assisted 12 mushroom growers in the region.
