ย
The College of Teacher Educationโs Bachelor of Technical -Vocational Teacher Education and Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education programs continued its partnership with Bungro-Margaay Elementary School in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur through a skills training program on April 18, 2024. This second installment, following a previous session on pokpoklo seaweed ice cream production, focused on product labeling and packaging.
The program welcomed a diverse group of participants, including students, teachers, and parents. Mrs. Evangeline Garcia (Teacher III of BMES) and Mrs. Lily C. Albajesco (FPTA President) facilitated the opening, while Dr. Jeanina B. Batin, MATLE-HE Program Head, provided the rationale of the program.
Mr. Marnie P. Tabilin delivered a comprehensive lecture on product labeling and packaging tailored specifically for seaweed ice cream. The session then transitioned into a hands-on training workshop. Participants actively participated, designing their own labels and packaging and putting their newfound knowledge into practice.
The afternoon session turned towards a critical social topic. Dr. Victoria R. Arce, CTE faculty member and gender advocate, led a seminar on gender and development. Dr. Arce’s discussion addressed significant issues like economic marginalization and violence against women. The session concluded with an open forum, fostering a space for dialogue and deeper understanding.
As the program ended, Mr. John Cesar S. Azcueta, Head Teacher of Bungro-Margaay Elementary School, expressed his gratitude to the CTE for this enriching and productive extension program. This collaborative effort not only empowered the community with practical skills for their ice cream venture, but also sparked important conversations on gender equality and amplified CTE’s commitment to both social responsibility and community development.
