DLH, CCJE join forces in extension activities

The Department of Languages and Humanities of the College of Arts and Sciences joined forces with the College of Criminal Justice Education through for two extension activities on October 10-11 at Quimmarayan Elementary School and Capangdanan Elementary School.

They were organized by Prof. Bernadeth F. Canoy and Dr. Edwin Q. Cerna, extension coordinators of DLH and CCJE, respectively.

The lecture on “Green Justice: Criminological Insights into Environmental Law and Crime Prevention” was presented by Mrs. Jacqueline F. Castillo. The purpose was to enhance community awareness regarding the significance of environmental laws, promote active involvement in preserving local ecosystems, and share the legal frameworks that govern environmental protection, alongside the application of criminological theories in enforcing these regulations.

Subsequently, Dr. Mervic M. Pariñas delivered a lecture focused on “Strengthening Communities Through Fire Prevention and Understanding Organized Crime.” The lecture aimed to inform participants about fire hazards, preventive strategies, and safety measures to mitigate the risk of fire incidents, while also covering pertinent laws and penalties related to organized crime.

Barangay captains and councils, along with residents, teachers, and students, take part in these activities. Furthermore, these initiatives are in harmony with the University’s goal of improving the implementation of quality assurance and outcome-based education, while further delivering responsive, pertinent, and sustainable services to the community.
