DLH exhibit showcases UNP’s rich history, growth

The cultural exhibit entitled “Lagip ti Naglabas iti Uneg ti Pagadalan: A Cultural Exhibit on Miniature” was held from October 1 to 18, 2025 at the Burgos Hall Lobby of the University of Northern Philippines (UNP).

This exhibit, which highlighted miniature replicas of the University’s historic buildings, provided an opportunity to reflect on the institution’s growth and transformation. By preserving and showcasing these buildings in miniature form, the exhibit emphasized their role as symbols of the university’s rich history and cultural heritage. It was organized by Prof. Irene Aguilar.

Dr. Remedios T. Navarro, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, delivered the opening remarks and underscored the significance of this exhibit. According to her, the buildings showcase key milestones in the University’s journey and symbolize its enduring legacy.

Following this, Mr. Benedict Bautista, the faculty-in-charge, shared the rationale for the exhibit. He explained that these miniature buildings were not merely replicas but were tangible representations of the cultural and historical contexts in which the University was established. He emphasized the importance of preserving these structures to appreciate the institution’s legacy and its contributions to the broader societal and educational landscape.

Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna further highlighted the importance of these buildings as a part of the University’s legacy. He spoke about how these structures have witnessed significant events and decisions that have shaped the University’s identity over time.

Dr. Cadorna also stressed the relevance of the exhibit to connect current students, faculty, and the wider community to the historical and cultural roots of the university, fostering a deeper understanding of its role in the country’s educational development.

Prof. Allen Magdaleno A. de Vera, head of the Department of Languages and Humanities, commended the initiative for bridging the past and the present. He emphasized that the exhibit offered students an opportunity to appreciate the historical context of their University and enrich their educational experience. Prof. De Vera also acknowledged the efforts of the Humanities faculty in engaging students from the nursing, tourism, and business administration programs in this cultural endeavor.

The Lagip ti Naglabas iti Uneg ti Pagadalan cultural exhibit not only succeeded in preserving the university’s cultural heritage but also provided a platform for reflecting on the past.
