UNP-CTE introduces Ilocano culture to SEA teachers

The University of Northern Philippines-College of Teacher Education (UNP-CTE) has organized a two-part cultural immersion program titled, DALLIASAT (Developing Awareness on the Life and Language of Ilocanos Among SEA Teacher Participants) for its 10th batch of Southeast Asian (SEA) Teacher participants. This program is designed to enhance the understanding of Ilocano culture, language, and heritage among the participants.

On October 18, 2024, participants visited the National Museum Ilocos and Baluarte Zoo. The museum visit provided them a glimpse into the rich history and cultural heritage of the region, while the zoo offered them a chance to connect with nature and local wildlife.

The second part of the program, held on October 28, 2024, took participants to the heart of Vigan City, specifically the Vigan City Conservation Museum, where they learned about the city’s unique architecture and traditions. The tour also extended to Sulvec, Narvacan Marine Protected Area, and San Mariano View Deck, offering opportunities for birdwatching and appreciating the coastal landscapes.

Through DALLIASAT, SEA Teacher participants were able to immerse themselves in Ilocano culture, interact with local communities, and gain insights into the region’s history, traditions, and natural beauty. This cultural exchange program not only enriched their educational experience but also widened their intercultural understanding and appreciation.

Participating institutions were Universitas Pakuan (UnPak), Universitas Borneo Tarakan, Universitas Mohamadiyah Surakarta, Universitas Pakuan, Universitas Sebelas Maret, and Udon Thani Rajabat University.
