UNP hosts elimination round of Biology Olympiad
The Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) has recently partnered with the University of Northern Philippines, under the leadership of Dr. Erwin Cadorna, to serve as a Satellite Testing Center for the elimination round of the Annual Philippine Biology Olympiad (BPO). This event was organized by Ateneo de Manila University’s Department of Biology in collaboration with the Ateneo Biological Organization. This significant collaboration aims to select delegates who are envisioned to represent the Philippines at the International Biology Olympiad (IBO).
The elimination round took place on January 25, 2025, at the UNP-CBAA Building, the event was attended by participants from various institutions, such as Ilocos Norte National High School, Philippine Science High School – Ilocos Campus, Philippine Science High School – CAR Campus, Mariano Marcos State University Laboratory High School (Laoag), Lorma Colleges, Laoac National High School, Urdaneta City National High School, Mariano Marcos State University Laboratory High School (Batac), Westville School, and WCC Aeronautical and Technological College – Binalonan Campus.
This year’s BPO, themed SIKLAB, aims to spark interest and appreciation for biological sciences among students in grades 7–12. The event is organized by ADMU’s Department of Biology in collaboration with the Ateneo Biological Organization, focusing on enhancing students’ skills and passion for biology while promoting camaraderie among participants from different regions.
Following the elimination round, UNP’s Admission Services Office conducted a recruitment talk to showcase various course offerings, particularly emphasizing science-related programs with lower enrollment numbers. Presenters included Mr. John Christian Bagasala from the College of Teacher Education and Mr. Jerome Mecca from the College of Arts and Sciences. They highlighted UNP’s commitment to quality education and a holistic approach to academic and personal development, encouraging students to consider their programs as viable options for furthering their education.
This partnership not only enhances educational opportunities for students but more importantly, strengthens UNP’s role in fostering scientific knowledge and engagement within the community.
