DLH boosts campus journalism

On February 26, 2025, teachers at Balaleng Elementary School participated in an intensive crash course on radio broadcasting. This workshop, led by the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Languages and Humanities (DLH), aimed to enhance the school’s campus journalism program. The goal was to equip teachers with the skills to create engaging radio content and effectively mentor their students.

Ms. Eden Beronilla provided valuable insights on scriptwriting, emphasizing that radio content should not only inform but also create an immersive experience for listeners. She encouraged using sound effects, vivid language, and a conversational tone to paint a picture with sound. She stressed the importance of clarity, simplicity, and completeness in scripts. Additionally, she highlighted the crucial roles of preparation and rehearsal in ensuring a smooth and impactful delivery, noting that a well-written script is only half the battle.

This initiative reflects UNP’s commitment to academic excellence and community engagement to cultivate future journalists and storytellers while elevating the standards of campus journalism at Balaleng Elementary School. By preparing teachers to mentor students effectively, the program seeks to equip future media practitioners with the skills needed to tackle real-world challenges.
