BPEd, MAT-PE conduct outdoor wellness seminar

The Physical Education students of the University of Northern Philippines attended a hands-on seminar on May 18, 2025, at the College of Teacher Education building. The seminar titled “Pathways to Well-being: Outdoor Recreation and Education for Sustainable Futures” jointly organized by the Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) and the Master of Arts in Teaching Physical Education (MAT-PE) programs was designed to equip participants with skills and confidence needed to lead outdoor learning activities.

The event focused on preparing students for the realities of outdoor instruction, a growing area in the PE field. Sessions covered outdoor recreation, survival skills, and emergency response. These areas are vital for ensuring safety and effectiveness in physical education beyond the classroom.

The keynote speaker, Mr. Jordan Christopher Soria, delivered a lecture on first aid and emergency response. He discussed the ways on how future teachers can manage injuries and emergencies during outdoor excursions.

Ms. Lhea Gorospe and Ms. Charmaine Cano led the session on the role of outdoor activities in promoting fitness, mental health, and teamwork. Mr. Jun Erick Raciles conducted a workshop on navigation and survival, demonstrating map reading, route planning, and basic field safety.

Participants engaged in practical exercises aimed at building leadership, cooperation, and situational awareness. These skills organizers say are essential for future educators.
