COE holds 3rd Hard Hatting and Pinning Ceremonies

UNP College of Engineering held its 3rd Hard Hatting and Pinning Ceremonies on June 9, 2025, at the UNP Gymnasium. The event gathered third year students from the civil, sanitary, and geodetic engineering programs to formally transition into the final phase of their college journey. The ceremony formally signifies the students’ transition from the theoretical learning phase to practical training phase through their On-the-Job Training program.

With the theme “Stepping into the Site: Embracing Growth, Safety and Professionalism,” the ceremony highlighted the importance of safety culture, commitment, and identity in the engineering profession.

Guest speaker Engr. Braulio Piano Jr., Engineer II at the DPWH Ilocos Sur 1st District Engineering Office, delivered an inspirational message, emphasizing the responsibilities and ethical standards that come with donning the hard hat. “Be humble and be teachable” he said.

The program was attended by Hon. Engr. Nestor Pajaro, newly elected President of the UNP Federated Alumni Association, and the faculty members of the College of Engineering, headed by Dr. Nelia Verzosa. The symbolic placing of hardhats, vests, and pins followed, led by the faculty members and university administrators.

The ceremony also included the Engineering Apprenticeship Pledge led by EDSA Governor-Elect John Adrielle Donato. The event celebrated not just academic completion but also the students’ readiness to uphold safety and integrity as future engineers.

As the third-year engineering students step beyond the walls of the university and into real-world projects, the ceremony stood as a reminder of the values they carry— professionalism, safety, and a lifelong commitment to learning.
