The Center for Gender and Development (CGAD) conducted a gender sensitivity training attended by the Infrastructure Project Management and Development Office (IPMDO) personnel June 23-25, 2025 at the UNP Guestel.
The training aimed to equip the IPMDO personnel with the skills to integrate gender perspectives in all the programs, projects, and activities of the office to create gender-sensitive and gender-responsive infrastructure facilities that would address the needs and concerns of individuals regardless of gender.
The gender sensitivity training started with knowing and understanding gender as a social construct, which was facilitated by Dr. Marifel Acena, UNP GAD Pool member and Head of the Students Welfare Services Office. Atty. Christian Casildo, CGAD Research Coordinator, discussed the various gender issues.
To address the gender issues presented, Dr. Victoria Arce, NGRP and UNP GAD pool member, tackled the Gender and Development Framework and Atty. Katrynn Louise R. Eder, Office-in-Charge, CGAD, also discussed the legal mandates and policy imperatives on gender and development. Workshops and presentations and processing of outputs were also facilitated by the resource persons to deepen the learnings acquired by the participants during the different sessions.
The training concluded with a commitment setting, which symbolized the beginning of the participants’ journey as gender advocates.
The University of Northern Philippines is a Philippine Commission on Women (PCW)-certified provider of gender sensitivity training, and as part of its gender mainstreaming initiatives, the CGAD regularly conducts gender sensitivity training for the personnel and students of the university as well as for other stakeholders.
