University of Northern Philippines Honored for Environmental Stewardship

UNP was recognized for its outstanding commitment to environmental protection and sustainable resource management during the 2025 Environment Month Culminating Program held at the Tagudin Farmers Civic Center on June 30, 2025.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region I awarded the University with a Certificate of Recognition in grateful acknowledgment of the university’s invaluable support and active participation in the implementation of department programs and initiatives. Dr. Eleanor Belizar, Special Assistant to the President, and Prof. Anna Liza Europa-Morales, Head of the University’s Environmental Management Office, attended the awarding ceremonies. These efforts include protected area management, environmental education, research, and extension activities.

The certificate was presented during the culminating activity and family day celebration, which gathered key environmental partners, DENR personnel, and stakeholders from across Ilocos Sur.

UNP’s active involvement in environmental initiatives has been instrumental in advancing the goals of the DENR in Ilocos Sur. The University’s programs in environmental education, research, and community extension have supported the sustainable management of natural resources and the protection of local ecosystems.

The recognition underscores the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and government agencies in addressing environmental challenges. As the province marks the culmination of Environment Month, the partnership between UNP and DENR stands as a model for effective environmental advocacy and action.
