The University of Northern Philippines (UNP), in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the City Government of Vigan, successfully ended the three-day Training of Trainers (T-o-T) for the Youth Health Learning Package (YHLP) for Core Youth on August 14, 2025 at the UNP TechCom Function Hall. The event gathered youth leaders, educators, and partners to strengthen youth health advocacy.
Dr. Fatima Rocamora, VP for Research and Extension, highlighted unity and collaboration in her message: “We are a family. So, let’s address possible problems all together. To the students who are here, you can do this with the assistance of coaches and facilitators.” Her words reminded everyone of the importance of working together as one family, not only among students but also with faculty, staff, and partners. This sense of shared responsibility creates a supportive environment where problems are faced with empathy and teamwork.
Dr. Society Salcedo of College of Public Administration talked about the event’s importance and the strong commitment of partner organizations. The Declaration of Cooperation Signing among UNP, UNODC, and the City Government showed a serious and lasting effort to stop the spread of STIs, HIV, and AIDS, and to promote mental health and well-being.
Student Council President Jake Axel Tacadena shared his closing remarks with quotes from well-known books. From To Kill a Mockingbird, he talked about understanding others deeply and speaking for those who are unheard. From The Conjurer’s Bird, he spoke about acceptance, that sometimes not knowing what happens next is still okay. These thoughts inspired empathy, advocacy, and trust. The training showed the strong commitment of UNP, the city government, and international partner to give the youth skills they need and to help them advocate for community wellness. The conclusion of the YHLP shows the power of partnership and collective action in building a healthier and well-informed youth community.
