UNP conducts extension activities at Nagsincaoan Elementary School

The University of Northern Philippines (UNP), through the Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension, brought a series of extension activities to Nagsincaoan Elementary School (NES) on August 26, 2025, providing both learners and parents with opportunities for personal and professional growth.

In the morning, Mr. Johnny Allagadan Jr., Information Officer of UNP, delivered a lecture on news writing to members of the NES school publication. The session aimed to enhance the pupils’ journalism skills, strengthen their participation in campus journalism, and to prepare them for the District Press Conference. Simultaneously, a training on liquid hand soap making was conducted for parents of NES pupils. Facilitated by Ms. Claudette Rabago, Coordinator for Production and Post Harvest Management of the University Research and Development Office, the activity introduced participants to practical skills in producing quality liquid hand soap as a potential livelihood source.

The afternoon session featured Project L.A.P.I.S. (Lapis para sa Pangarap ng mga Ilokanong eStudyante) under the UNP Office of Student Affairs and Services, particularly its Admission Services Office. Ms. Precious Lyn Cornejo-Babida, Asst Head, Admission Services, Ms. Rain Alviar, served as resource persons. Ms. Ariza Mae Quicho served as facilitator and documenter.  

The project underscored UNP’s commitment to support young learners in their pursuit of quality education. Symbolizing hope, the distribution of pencils under Project L.A.P.I.S. inspired pupils to persevere in their studies. Following Project L.A.P.I.S was the lecture to parents and teachers by Mr. Melvin Laureta, faculty member of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA), that emphasized resilience and preparedness for the challenges of the new school year. Assisting Mr. Laureta were Dr. Eileen Pacula, CBAA Extension Coordinator, and Mr. Ralph Marren Buccat.

These activities formed part of the University’s obligations under the Memorandum of Agreement signed by Dr. Erwin Cadorna, UNP President, and Mrs. Rosemelinda Baclig, NES School Principal, on February 5, 2025. Among the commitments stipulated are the conduct of lectures, including coaching and officiating in sports games, upon the request of the recipient school; Conduct of information drive and advocacy programs; and conduct of skills training, technology transfer and livelihood projects.

The OVPRE is headed by VP Fatima Rocamora. With the team in the extension activity was Prof. May Evelia Ruadap, University Extension Office Coordinator.

Through these initiatives, UNP continues to extend its mission beyond the university grounds, empowering communities and fostering partnerships in pursuit of inclusive growth and development.
