UNP-CHS Leads Inclusive First Aid Training to Boost Community Preparedness in Manueva, Santa

The University of Northern Philippines–College of Health Sciences spearheaded an inclusive first aid training in Manueva, Santa, Ilocos Sur on September 6, 2025, equipping community members with lifesaving skills through gender-responsive and culturally sensitive approaches. The program featured expert-led sessions on emergency interventions, safety principles, gender-sensitive assessment, and community preparedness.

Dubbed as “Inclusive First Aid: Strengthening Lifesaving Skills Through Gender-Responsive and Culturally Sensitive Training,” the sessions covered a wide range of topics including the introduction to first aid, principles of safety, victim assessment, management of common emergencies, gender-related concerns, disaster response, and the importance of building a culture of preparedness. Each lecturer also served as facilitator, ensuring an interactive and hands-on learning experience for participants.

Dr. Joussie B. Bermio, Dean of the College of Health Sciences, lauded the initiative, emphasizing that inclusive, community-based training plays a vital role in building resilience and saving lives. Barangay Captain Dr. Manuel Bajet Jr. likewise expressed his appreciation, stressing the need to equip residents with practical first aid skills. For his part, Mr. Benjamin Buen, President of the Rotary Club of Vigan, underscored that such collaborations embody the Rotary’s mission of “service above self,” empowering communities through education and preparedness.

The strong support of the College of Health Sciences, local leaders, and partner organizations contributed to the success of the training, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in building safer and healthier communities.
