BSED major in Social Studies student Ralph Cedric Alviedo clinched the championship title in the Stat Speaks Oratorical Contest – Provincial Level (Tertiary Category) held at the Ilocos Sur Community College Audio Visual Room in Bantay, Ilocos Sur on October 9, 2025. The competition was one of the highlights of the 36th National Statistics Month celebration themed “Accelerating the SDG Pace of Progress: Mobilizing Data for All.”
In his compelling speech, Alviedo emphasized the indispensable role of inclusive and accessible data in realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He eloquently conveyed how statistical collaboration and evidence-based decision-making can bridge social gaps and propel equitable progress across communities.
Guided by Dr. Novie Ada Urbis, faculty member of the Department of Languages and Humanities under the College of Arts and Sciences, Alviedo honed his oratorical prowess, delivering a piece that resonated with both passion and purpose. Dr. Urbis’ mentorship was instrumental in refining his clarity, conviction, and civic consciousness—qualities that distinguished his winning performance.
With this provincial victory, Alviedo is set to represent Ilocos Sur in the Regional Stat Speaks Oratorical Contest on October 16, 2025, where he will continue to champion the call for data-driven governance and youth empowerment.
This achievement not only brings honor to the University of Northern Philippines but also reaffirms its commitment to developing articulate, socially responsible, and data-literate educators poised to make meaningful contributions to national development.
