Grade 2 and Grade 3 pupils of the University of Northern Philippines–Laboratory Schools took center stage in promoting safety awareness as they participated in the “Road and Fire Safety for Bigueño Children” program conducted by the Vigan City Public and Traffic Management Office on October 27, 2025, at the UNP Academic Building.
Through engaging discussions and interactive demonstrations, the young learners were taught the importance of following traffic rules, recognizing road signs, and practicing fire safety measures—empowering them to become responsible and safety-conscious citizens at an early age.
The activity sought to instill among the pupils a sense of awareness and responsibility on safety by highlighting the importance of road and fire safety. Mr. Joseph Quitevis, Assistant Safety Officer of Vigan City, spearheaded the session on road safety, engaging the young learners in interactive discussions and demonstrations. He guided them in recognizing potential road hazards, practicing safe ways to cross streets, and understanding essential fire safety measures both at home and in school — including the proper steps to take in escaping safely during a fire emergency.
“We are truly grateful to the Vigan City Government for bringing this program to our school,” said Dr. Clarita Pere, Assistant Principal of the Laboratory Grade School. “It is a meaningful initiative that helps educate our young learners about the importance of road and fire safety, instilling in them awareness and responsibility even at an early age.”
The active engagement of the Laboratory Schools stood as a testament to Vigan City’s commitment to nurture a culture of safety and preparedness among its young learners. Their participation not only reinforced the city’s advocacy for community safety through education but also showcased the vital collaboration between the local government and the academic community in building a more resilient and informed generation of Bigueños.
