UNP welcomes BSU delegates for Research and Extension Benchmarking

The University of Northern Philippines warmly welcomed the delegation from Benguet State University (BSU) for a comprehensive benchmarking activity focused on enhancing research and extension initiatives on November 27, 2025. The activity served as an avenue to strengthen collaboration, share functional systems, and deepen the shared commitment of both universities to elevating community-impact programs.

Leading the UNP team was Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, University President, whose visionary leadership continues to steer the institution toward innovative, research-driven, and socially responsive undertakings.

He was joined by Dr. Fatima Rocamora, Vice President for Research and Extension; Dr. Edelyn Cadorna, Director of the University Research and Development Office (URDO); Dr. Lloyd Mata, Director of the University Extension Office; and the staff from both units whose dedication fuels the university’s research and extension machinery.

One of the highlights of the activity was the presentation of Dr. Edelyn Cadorna, who shared the strategic direction, systems, and practices of the University Research and Development Office. Her presentation was met with great appreciation from the BSU delegation, who commended the clarity, structure, and strong alignment of UNP’s research strategies with institutional goals and national priorities.

Representing Benguet State University was Dr. Roscinto Lumbres, Vice President for Research and Extension, accompanied by their directors and staff who oversee research and extension implementation. The delegation noted that UNP’s mechanisms for proposal evaluation, monitoring, ethical review, and dissemination reflect a well-organized and progressive research culture. They expressed admiration for UNP’s policies, processes, and the seamless coordination between research and extension offices.

The benchmarking event not only showcased UNP’s culture of collaboration and excellence but also reaffirmed the shared aspiration of both universities to advance transformative, research-based, and community-responsive initiatives. As the exchange concluded, both teams echoed their commitment to sustaining partnerships that uplift communities, empower scholars, and shape a future driven by knowledge and service.
