The University Extension Office (UEO) successfully conducted the extension activity “NutriKultura sa Batang Pilipino: Continuing Nutrition and Feeding Assistance for Learners and Lecture on Parent Engagement for Healthy Child Nutrition” on December 05, 2025, at Daclapan Elementary School, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur.
The activity was implemented in response to the request of Sir Gilbert Asuncion, School Principal of Daclapan Elementary School, to address the nutritional concerns of wasted and severely wasted learners. The program provided nutrition and feeding assistance to identified learners and a lecture for parents emphasizing proper child nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices.
Anchored on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger and SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, the activity aimed to improve the nutritional status of learners and strengthen parent engagement as a key component of child health promotion.
The activity was led by Ms. Jevie A. Abella, who served as the initiator and resource lecturer, with facilitation support from Mr. Randall Rabacal and Ms. Helen Siembre. The successful implementation of the activity was further made possible through the support and continuous commitment of Dr. Lloyd A. Mata, Director of the University Extension Office, whose leadership and guidance contributed significantly to the achievement of the program’s objectives.
Parents expressed appreciation for the initiative and demonstrated increased awareness of practical nutrition strategies that can be applied at home using affordable and locally available food resources. The activity reinforced the University Extension Office’s commitment to responsive, needs-based community engagement and the sustained promotion of health and well-being among school communities.
