The Bachelor of Science in Biology Program of the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) College of Arts and Sciences advanced its extension initiatives with a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing and Training-Workshop on Basic Scientific Inquiry. Held for Senior High School (SHS) teachers and students in two Cabugao, Ilocos Sur communities, the events equipped participants with essential research skills.
The session unfolded on December 10, 2025, at Cabugao National High School. A follow-up extended the program to Barangay Turod, broadening access for local learners and educators. Organized by BS Biology Program, the workshops targeted key K-12 challenges: crafting investigatory projects, applying scientific methods, and upholding academic rigor. Participants gained practical tools to elevate school-based research.
Faculty experts, led by Mr. Jeam Pula, delivered dynamic lectures, guided discussions, and hands-on activities. These fostered vibrant collaboration between UNP and secondary educators.
A pivotal moment came with the MOA signing, cementing partnerships between UNP and Cabugao schools. Ms. Mae Ruadap signed for UNP, joined by Barangay Turod Captain Mr. Edgardo Garcia and Head Teacher Ms. Maricel Ballete. Local leaders voiced strong backing for grassroots research and education.
This collaboration advances SDG 4 (Quality Education) via inclusive learning, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through research empowerment, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by uniting institutions and communities.
UNP continues to champion community upliftment, igniting scientific curiosity and innovation among Cabugao’s youth.
