Strengthening its mission of service beyond the campus, the University of Northern Philippines, through its College of Architecture and Built Environment Extension Program, actively supported the solemn blessing of the Chapel of Saint Joseph, Foster Father of Jesus, at the Immaculate Conception School of Theology (ICST) on January 16, 2026. The chapel stands as a significant faith-centered development project, symbolizing UNP’s sustained commitment to extension initiatives that translate academic expertise into meaningful partnerships with allied institutions and communities.
UNP President Dr. Erwin Cadorna attended the ceremony, reaffirming the University’s strong institutional support and active involvement in the project’s realization. The event was likewise attended by Ilocos Sur Governor Jerry Singson and former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson, together with members of the clergy, seminarians, guests, and benefactors, all of whom witnessed the significant milestone. The chapel was formally blessed by His Excellency Archbishop David William Antonio, the newly installed Archbishop of Nueva Segovia, highlighting its role as a sacred and dedicated spiritual haven for the Saint Joseph Formation Community and the broader ICST seminary community in Northern Luzon.
The St. Joseph Chapel is among the key projects under UNP College of Architecture’s extension initiatives. It was coordinated through the College’s extension program, led by Engr. Maila Ragasa, Extension Coordinator, and was designed by Ar. Monserrat Stevens Pescador as part of UNP’s technical and professional contribution to ICST’s infrastructure development. The project was planned to provide a dignified space for prayer, reflection, and formation within the seminary community.
The blessing of the chapel marked a significant milestone following the earlier groundbreaking ceremony at ICST, which formally signaled the start of construction through a collaborative partnership between UNP’s College of Architecture and its design team. The completion and consecration of the St. Joseph Chapel highlight the impact of sustained institutional collaboration made possible through UNP’s extension services, reaffirming the University’s role in advancing community-based development initiatives grounded in service, faith, and shared institutional aspirations.
