Blending scientific inquiry with cultural identity and social equity, the “Science Beyond Borders: Series of Lectures for Science Investigatory Projects Rooted in Culture and Equality”has reshaped the landscape of student research at Vigan National High School East (VNHSE), empowering teachers and learners alike through a three-day program held on January 15, 21, and 23, 2026, and led by the University of Northern Philippines’ Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (DMNS).
The three-day series formally opened with Dr. Dennese Jane Meresen, who guided participants in developing compelling and well-structured research titles, abstracts, and keywords. This session was followed by an in-depth discussion led by Dr. Mhark Jay Benitez, who provided a clear and systematic deconstruction of the Introduction, helping participants strengthen the foundation of their research manuscripts.
On the second day, Dr. Alma Segismundo delivered a comprehensive lecture on research Methodology, equipping participants with practical strategies for designing rigorous and reliable studies. This was complemented by Prof. Digna Jacob’s detailed presentation on Data Analysis and Results, which enhanced participants’ capacity to interpret and present findings accurately and meaningfully.
The final day focused on strengthening the link between academic research and community development. Prof. Christa Naval emphasized the importance of formulating conclusions that highlight social relevance and community impact, while Prof. Jenny Grace Almazan reinforced the value of academic integrity through her in-depth discussion on the proper application of the APA 7th Edition citation style.
The program culminated in a writeshop, during which faculty members presented their draft research concepts for upcoming School Improvement Plans (SIPs). The outputs demonstrated refined titles, well-articulated frameworks, and culturally responsive themes, reflecting the participants’ enhanced research competencies. Overall, the series highlighted the transformative impact of the lectures and workshops in strengthening research culture and practice at VNHSE.
