The University of Northern Philippines continued its commitment to holistic education and community engagement with a specialized training-workshop for classroom advisers on providing socioemotional support and behavior interventions for learners at Dr. Ricardo Gacula Memorial National High School. The activity held on February 6, 2026 was attended by teachers and led by the school’s principal, Dr. Analyn Galanto.
The training was facilitated by Dr. Christian Gea Florentino, Program Head of the Bachelor of Science in Psychology, who shared her expertise on strategies to support students’ emotional well-being and implement effective behavior interventions. Supporting the workshop was Prof. May Evelia Ruadap, Extension Coordinator, ensuring the seamless integration of the University’s extension services.
Spearheaded by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension, the University Extension Office, and the College of Arts and Sciences, the activity is part of UNP’s ongoing extension initiatives with its adopted school. This effort aims to equip educators with practical skills that enhance student development beyond academics.
This workshop follows a previous UNP-led extension activity at the school on January 30, 2026, where Ms. Pauline Yanssen Martinez delivered lectures on “Psychological First Aid” and “Mental Health and Psychosocial Support”, underscoring the University’s continuous dedication to promote the mental health and socioemotional well-being of learners.
Through these initiatives, UNP strengthens its mission of empowering educators, fostering resilient learning communities, and ensuring that students receive the guidance and support necessary for their holistic development.
