CHS conducts First Aid Training, donates kits to Nagsincaoan Elementary School

Strengthening community preparedness and promoting a culture of safety in schools, faculty members from the College of Health Sciences (CHS) of the University of Northern Philippines conducted a First Aid Training for the pupils and teachers of Nagsincaoan Elementary School on February 11, 2026.

The initiative was organized in response to a formal request from Ms. Rosemelinda Baclig, School Principal, who sought the assistance of the University through the Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension and the University Extension Office. The collaboration shows UNP’s continued commitment to community extension services and public health education.

Leading the training were CHS faculty members Prof. Adora Velasco, Prof. Maria Yolanda Aquino, Prof. Greg Quilana, and Prof. Lorena Darisan. They were joined by University Extension Coordinators Mr. Jake Soria and Prof. May Evelia Ruadap, who facilitated the coordination and implementation of the outreach activity.

The training equipped participants with essential first aid knowledge and practical skills, including proper wound care, basic life-saving techniques, and appropriate responses to common school-related emergencies. Through interactive discussions and demonstrations, the facilitators emphasized the importance of prompt and correct first aid intervention in preventing complications and saving lives.

Teachers and pupils actively participated in the hands-on sessions, gaining confidence in handling emergency situations while awaiting professional medical assistance. The activity not only enhanced individual preparedness but also reinforced the school’s capacity to ensure the safety and well-being of its learners.

The training concluded with the formal turnover of first aid kits to Nagsincaoan Elementary School, reinforcing the initiative’s commitment to campus safety and preparedness. The kits, donated by CHS sponsor Naval & Military Lodge 8678 Norfolk Freemasons under the United Grand Lodge of England, are essential medical supplies intended for immediate use during emergencies. The contribution is expected to enhance the school’s capacity to respond promptly to accidents and health-related incidents, ensuring a safer environment for both learners and staff.

The outreach activity reflects UNP-CHS’s dedication to extending its expertise beyond the classroom and into the community, fostering partnerships that promote health awareness, safety, and service.
