UNP CGAD brings Gender and Child Protection Advocacy to Sulvec Integrated School

In celebration of 2026 National Women’s Month and Girl Child Week, the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) Center for Gender and Development (CGAD) conducted a vital extension activity at Sulvec Integrated School on March 24, 2026. Focused on child protection, awareness, and empowerment, the event highlighted UNP’s commitment to community engagement and gender mainstreaming at this partner institution led by Dr. Peregrino Cac.

Aimed at Grade 5 up to Grade 12 students, the program equipped participants with essential knowledge to safeguard their rights and well-being. Ms. Renee Grace Tungpalan, CGAD Research Coordinator, led a dynamic session on body autonomy, boundaries, and Gender and Development (GAD) basics—stressing self-awareness, mutual respect, and recognizing appropriate behaviors.

Ms. Cherry Banilad, UNP GAD Pool of Trainers member and College of Nursing faculty, complemented this with insights on preventing adolescent pregnancy. She explored causes, consequences, and strategies for informed decisions, responsible actions, and education’s role in youth futures.

Warmly received by students and faculty, the interactive discussions fostered openness and real-world connections on gender sensitivity, child protection, and adolescent health. As UNP partners, Sulvec benefits from such initiatives, affirming education’s power to build empowered, responsible citizens.
