The University of Northern Philippines emerged as a notable force at the 39th Psychological Association of the Philippines – Junior Affiliates (PAPJA) Annual Convention with its BS Psychology students earning a Special Award in the Songwriting Competition held April 27–28, 2026 at SMX MOA and De La Salle University-Manila, highlighting the institution’s dynamic blend of academic rigor and creative talent.
Under the banner “Futurescaping Psychology: Our Role in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals,” this year’s convention drew an estimated 7,300 students from more than 100 institutions across the country, transforming the venue into a dynamic hub of ideas and innovation. Over two days, participants engaged in a rigorous lineup of keynote addresses, roundtable discussions, skill-building workshops, and high-stakes student competitions, all anchored on psychology’s expanding role in shaping sustainable futures.
UNP sent a 50-strong delegation of BS Psychology students led by program Chair Dr. Gea Christian Astom Florentino and faculty mentors Ms. Precious Lyn Babida and Ms. Alexandria Blake Real-Pisalbo to the national convention where they made a commanding presence across multiple events. Demonstrating both creativity and technical excellence, the group secured a special citation for musical arrangement and production in the Song Writing competition, standing out in a highly competitive field of student talent and creatives.
Further highlighting UNP’s contribution, faculty member Ms. Real-Pisalbo served as facilitator for the workshop “Green Pages, Bold Voices: Youth Leadership in the Time of Climate Change,” which drew participation from students. The session engaged national-level participants in discussions on psychology’s role in climate action and sustainable development, aligning with the convention’s thrust to position future psychologists as key players in shaping a more humane and equitable future.
The 39th PAPJA Convention continues to serve as a premier arena where future clinicians, researchers, educators, and advocates converge to energize and celebrate the discipline and UNP’s performance this year shows the university’s growing presence in the national psychology community.
