A graduate of the University of Northern Philippines’ Bachelor of Science in Architecture program, Ms. Jovi Anne Haduca, brought pride to the university after securing Second Place in the prestigious WTA: Anthology End-of-Year Show 2026, a national architectural competition organized by William Ti Architects (WTA).
The recognition was conferred during the competition and awarding ceremony held on July 31, 2026, in Makati City, highlighting the excellence of UNP’s architecture program and the outstanding talent of its graduates.
Haduca earned the national distinction through her undergraduate architectural thesis, “An Integrated Barangay Resource Center for the Coastal Community of Puro, Magsingal, Ilocos Sur: A Design Response to Spatial Stagnation.” Her innovative design proposal stood out among entries from across the country, advancing to the final roster of 28 shortlisted works before ultimately securing Second Place.
Haduca’s award-winning proposal offers an innovative architectural response to the pressing challenges faced by coastal communities through the design of an integrated barangay resource center. Conceived as a multifunctional community hub, the proposed facility seeks to enhance the delivery of essential public services, strengthen disaster preparedness and community resilience, and promote sustainable local development by providing accessible spaces for governance, social services, emergency response, and community engagement.
The project exemplifies the transformative role of architecture in addressing community needs through context-sensitive and people-centered design. The award-winning undergraduate thesis was completed under the mentorship of Ar. Charles Angelo Andrada, whose guidance helped shape the research and design into a nationally recognized architectural proposal.
The distinction adds to UNP’s growing legacy of excellence in national architectural competitions. Haduca’s Second Place victory follows the impressive First Runner-Up finish of BS Architecture alumna Ms. Vinella Shane Pilien in the previous edition of the WTA: Anthology End-of-Year Show, reflecting the sustained caliber of UNP’s architecture program. Further highlighting the university’s strong representation this year, Mr. John Lester Yao was likewise named among the competition’s shortlisted finalists. Collectively, these accomplishments highlight UNP’s commitment in cultivating architects whose innovative, research-driven, and socially responsive designs continue to gain recognition on the national stage.
