Prof. Maximo B. Borje Jr. shares strategies for writing news stories.
With the aim of empowering the expressive capabilities of the University’s faculty members, the Faculty Union organized a retooling activity on journalistic and creative writing at the Guestel Function Hall on 16-17 February 2023.
The Faculty Union (FU) spearheaded the said activity with the vision to reorganize the editorial staff of the FU Gazette for 2023 and 2024 based on its mandate of publishing at least one issue for every academic year.
The event aimed to ignite the faculty’s passion of expression through writing and artistic work, encourage non-gender biased viewpoints on societal issues that concern the University and its faculty, prepare the faculty for any journalistic and creative writing venture, showcase the culture of work-life balance in UNP, serve as an opportunity to brainstorm on the contents of FU Gazette’s upcoming issues, train the participants on integrating gender, culture, and environment advocacies in writing, and help the University in producing effective writers.
Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, University President, and Dr. Mario P. Obrero, FU President, encouraged the participants to continue pursuing their passion in writing.
Prof. Maximo B. Borje, former director of the UNP Public Information Office, served as the resource speaker and workshop facilitator. Topics were newswriting and headline writing, photojournalism, editorial writing, feature writing, and creative writing.
The event ended with a session on “Shall I? A Sense of Commitment” with Dr. Ma. Jesusa R. Unciano of the Department of Languages and Humanities.
Dr. Mario P. Obrero, FU President, welcomes the participants. With him are Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna and Prof. Maximo B. Borje Jr.
