For steering scholarly exchange and knowledge dissemination through exemplary processes, one of the research journals of the University of Northern Philippines gained the “Exemplary Journal Award” (bronze) during the the Year Opener Celebration of the Visayas-Mindanao Consortium for Journal Publication, Inc. (VMCJPI) in Cebu City, March 30.
The Vector: International Journal of Emerging Science, Technology and Management (IJESTM) received the accolade for its “publication quality in terms of peer review policy, diversity in the geographical distribution of editors and authors, journal citation, timeliness, and indexation.”

Held in Cebu Normal University, the event gathered 24 journals from the different Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the Visayas and Mindanao which comprise the consortium.
Awards given were the Dr. Roberto N. Padua Award, Journal Impact Factor Award, and Exemplary Journal Award. The last one was either gold, silver, or bronze. The number of accumulated points for the criteria mentioned determines to which an awardee belongs.
“Although we are here in Luzon and we have only been a member since 2021 only, we are privileged enough to be considered as a member of the consortium and to receive such an award,” Dr. Edelyn A. Cadorna, director of the University Research and Development Office (URDO), remarked.
UNP is the only university in Luzon which is a member of the consortium.
According to Dr. Cadorna, the award means so much to the University, especially now that the administration is doing its best to continually transform the University research culture “from good to better.”
Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, University President, commended the URDO for streamlining research in the University.
“The award is for all of us, members of the UNP community. Thank you so much for all your support to all our research endeavors,” he pointed out when the award was presented to UNP faculty and staff during the flag ceremony on April 3.
Formerly the UNP Research Journal, The Vector (eISSN of 2945-4093) is “a peer-reviewed open-access journal that seeks the further discussion, advancement and dissemination of research and development concerns and knowledge in science, technology and management.”
Dr. Edelyn Cadorna, together with Dr. Erwin Cadorna, VP Rocamora, VP Navarro, and VP Tejero, and the URDO staff, present to the UNP community the award during the flag-raising ceremony, April 3.
