AACCUP Survey Visit assesses UNP Academic Excellence

The University of Northern Philippines submitted seven of its programs for Level 4 accreditation by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP).

The assessment of the programs Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science in Criminology, Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology, Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and Bachelor of Science in Social Work is scheduled August 11  to 13, 2025.

Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, UNP President, in his message stressed that, “UNP’s success is a collective achievement that spans all levels of the University—from the vice presidents to the utility staff.”
He Highlighted the University’s inclusive culture where every member, regardless of role, contributes significantly to its achievements—demonstrating that success is truly a shared responsibility.

“This inclusive approach fosters a participatory environment where all members’ efforts contribute to a transformative educational mission,” Dr. Cadorna added. Emphasizing participation at all levels, UNP nurtures a collaborative atmosphere that empowers every stakeholder to engage actively in driving positive change and educational transformation.

Dr. Rolando B. Navarro, Vice President for Academic Affairs, said, “the University upholds a culture of continuous program evaluation and meaningful self-awareness. This practice ensures that instruction, research, and student support services remain dynamic and responsive to emerging global standards.”
The assessment by AACCUP reinforces UNP’s dedication to ongoing reflection and improvement, ensuring its programs are not only relevant but also competitive on an international scale, thereby enhancing student outcomes and institutional quality.

Dr. Jaime M. Forbes, AACUP Coordinator, emphasized that “the process within each department or college plays a critical role in ensuring that quality standards are met and maintained throughout the institution.”

He continued his message expressing “heartfelt commendation for the rigorous preparation, evident organization, and warm hospitality. The effort you have invested in this accreditation visit reflects a genuine commitment to quality assurance and institutional excellence. Your desire to attain level accreditation status for the seven programs speaks volumes of our maturity as an academic institution and your passion to deliver outstanding public services through education.” He assured that the that the team is here to mentor their counterparts.

The AACCUP Accreditors are Dr. Forbes of Bataan Peninsula State University as Coordinator for Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology, Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Bachelor of Science in Social Work; Dr. Rene L. Celda of Iloilo Science and Technology University as Team Leader and Prof. Ma. Ian P. Delos Trinos of the Technological University of the Philippines as Lead Accreditor of BSIT; Dr. Juliet R. Masangcap of Bataan Peninsula State University as Team Leader and  Dr. Irene G. Bustos of Central Luzon State University as Lead Accreditor of BS Psych; Dr. Digna M. De Guzman of Bataan Peninsula State University as Team Leader for and Dr. Cherry M. Dycoco of Bicol University as Lead Accreditor of BSSW.

For the Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, and Bachelor of Science in Criminology, the Coordinator is Dr. Carlo T. Nabo of Western Mindanao State University. The accreditors are Arch. Ma Teresa V. Gopez of Bulacan State University as Team Leader, and Dr. Jocelyn A. Lutap of Polytechnic University of the Philippines as Lead Accreditor for BFA; Arch. Marijoy C. Atole-Perias of Partido State University as Team Leader, and Arch. Diane A. Jose of Eulogio Amang Rodriquez Institue of Science and Technology as Lead Accreditor of BS Arch.

For the BSCS program, Prof. Julius A. Sareno of Technological University of the Philippines as Team Leader, and Dr. Sherwin B. Sapin of Laguna State Polytechnic State University as Lead Accreditor; and for BS Crim, Prof. Eduardo D. Masirag of Bulacan State University as Team Leader, and Prof. Wilfredo D. Dalugdog of Laguna State Polytechnic University as Lead Accreditor.

The university’s accreditation efforts are expertly guided by the Quality Management Office, under the leadership of its director, Dr. Eva Marie Avila, together with the UNP Accreditation Task Force, composed of AACCUP-trained accreditors.

The faculty members involved in the preparation of documents for Bachelor of Fine Arts were Mr. Delmar T. Punio and Ms. Lilibeth C. Castañeda (Extension and Community Service); and Prof. Melody T. Gacita and Mr. Lyndon Dave Ton (Well Developed Planning Process). The Dean of the College of Social Work is Prof. Melody T. Gacita.
