BA Communication Program holds First Pinning Ceremony for Student Interns

The Bachelor of Arts in Communication Program held its first pinning ceremony, formally sending off its student interns as they prepare to begin their on-the-job training. The activity was attended by parents, faculty members, and university officials, making the occasion both meaningful and well supported.

The ceremony was graced by Professor Wilberto Tabutol, guest speaker, former UNP Board Secretary and Program Head of BA Mass Communication, and now Principal of Great Heights Learning Center in Bantay, Ilocos Sur.

In his keynote address, Professor Wilberto Tabutol spoke about purpose, integrity, and direction. “You have to find your way,” he shared. “The field you are entering will challenge you in many ways but never lose sight of why you chose to become communicators.”

He further emphasized the central role of truth in communication. “When you speak and when you write, always speak the truth,” he said. “Truth is the cornerstone of responsible communication. Without it, credibility is lost, and without credibility, communication loses its meaning. In a world full of noise and misinformation, choose to be voices of honesty and courage.”

University President Dr. Erwin Cadorna addressed the interns and reminded them of their role as representatives of the university. “Wherever you are assigned, you carry the name of the university,” he said. “You are ambassadors of the brand we are building through your actions, work ethic, and professionalism.”

In her opening remarks, Dr. Angelica Arquines, Program Head of BA Communication, explained the meaning behind the pins given to the interns. “The pin you are wearing today represents trust and responsibility,” she said. “It reminds you that the world outside the classroom is different and will demand more from you, not just skills, but discipline and integrity.”

Prof. Johnny Allagadan Jr., BA Communication faculty member, formally introduced Professor Tabutol, highlighting his contributions to the program and his enduring influence on generations of communicators.

Dr. Grace Garcia, OIC Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, represented by Prof. Charo Rojas, aslo expressed support for the interns as they begin their internship journey.

The highlight of the ceremony was the pinning of the interns, followed by a candle-lighting ceremony symbolizing guidance and purpose, and a heartfelt batch song that reflected the shared hopes and excitement of the students as they begin their internship journey.

The program ended with closing remarks from Dean Tabula, BA Communication faculty member, who thanked the parents, faculty, and students for their support in making the first pinning ceremony a success.

The third-year BA Communication students served as the production team, from emcees and technical staff to the food committee and ushers, showing teamwork and practical communication skills in handling the event.

As the first pinning ceremony of the BA Communication Program, the activity marked an important step for the interns as they move from classroom learning to real-world experience.
