BAPS highlights women empowerment and gender equality at Basug NHS

In celebration of Women’s Month, the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science Program conducted an extension activity titled “POLSAY: Gabay ng Bawat Salaysay – Empower, Educate, Elevate: Women for a Better Tomorrow” on March 6, 2025, at Basug National High School, Santa, Ilocos Sur. The activity aimed to raise awareness on gender equality and emphasize the important role of women in society, governance, and development.

Political Science students enrolled in Development Communication facilitated the program, which featured simultaneous seminars on key topics. Prof. Crizzle Paz discussed the Magna Carta of Women, focusing on the legal rights and protection of women, while Dr. Ismael Rivera tackled the role of men in women empowerment, highlighting the importance of male support in advancing gender equality.

Prof. Mae Angelie Salvador-Garcia, Program Head of BA Political Science, led a seminar on Republic Act No. 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act, emphasizing the need for safe and respectful environments. Ms. Glenny Angellica Barrientos facilitated a sharing session on real-life experiences of women in the community.

The event concluded with the “Juana Karera: Amazing Race” and an awarding ceremony, leaving participants informed, engaged, and inspired to become advocates for women’s rights.
