The BS Midwifery Program of College of Health Sciences (CHS) led a community lecture-workshop on December 1, 2025, at the Day Care Center in Manueva, Santa, Ilocos Sur. Titled “Building a Strong Foundation: Empowering Families Through Culture and Shared Care—Promoting Positive Fatherhood and Gender-Equitable Parenting in the First 1000 Days of Life,” the event engaged parents and caregivers in vital discussions on early child development.
The workshop emphasized the significance of the first 1000 days of life—a critical window for a child’s growth and long-term health. Participants were guided through essential topics such as maternal nutrition, culturally influenced feeding practices, responsive caregiving, and the shared roles of both parents in raising healthy children. Special focus was placed on strengthening the involvement of fathers in early childcare and nurturing, highlighting how engaged fatherhood contributes to children’s emotional and developmental well-being.
Speakers Mrs. Dr. Fe Rodillas, Dr. Romelia Tamayo, and CHS Dean Dr. Joussie Bermio shared evidence-based insights, practical tips, and cultural strategies to foster equitable parenting.
This aligns with CHS’s family health initiatives and SDG 3 for good health, promoting inclusive practices in partner communities.
