Jerwin Tubuyo and Nathaniel Tadios, Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) Science students from the University of Northern Philippines, emerged as gold medalists during the National Teacher Education Quiz Bee held on May 15–16, 2025, at the San Andres Sports Complex in Malate, Manila.
Tabuyo, provincial-level champion, and Tadios, provincial-level 3rd runner-up, represented UNP in the national competition organized by the Carl Balita Review Center, brought together over a hundred Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs). The students earned gold in the combined ranking of two main events: a skills showdown and a mind battle quiz.
In the skills segment, participants were challenged to design a 5E lesson plan using AI tools, create a topic-specific educational poster, and develop an AI-proof GRASPS performance task.
The mind battle quiz tested students’ knowledge in professional and general education across three difficulty levels: easy, average, and difficult items. Tabuyo and Tadios excelled in both segments, a proof of their strong content mastery and practical application of teaching skills.
Dr. Joey-Nell Marzan served as the team’s coach and mentor, guiding the students throughout the preparation and competition phases.
