BSEHS students boost frontline readiness in intensive EMT training

Fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Emergency Health Services students of the University of Northern Philippines have leveled up their frontline readiness, completing an intensive Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Training from November 24 to December 12, 2025. Spearheaded by the College of Health Sciences, the program equipped future responders with the skills and confidence to tackle real-life emergencies head-on.

The EMT Training officially commenced with inspiring messages from key university leaders, highlighting the values essential to emergency care. UNP President Dr. Erwin Cadorna, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Rolando Navarro, and CHS Dean Dr. Joussie Bermio emphasized the critical role of discipline, professionalism, and a commitment to service in preparing future first responders. Guiding the students through both academic and hands-on clinical training were Prof. Maria Yolanda Aquino, BSEHS Program Head, Prof. Leila Sylvia Bautista, RLE Coordinator, and the dedicated team of BSEHS clinical instructors, ensuring that participants gained practical skills and knowledge for real-world emergency scenarios.

The EMT Training was expertly led by Mr. Alexander Villalon, EMT, Executive Director of START EMS Solutions Corp, with a distinguished team of medical and emergency response professionals. The training roster featured Dr. Hazel Laurente, Dr. Cezar Gutierrez, and a cadre of skilled EMT instructors, including Mr. Christopher Geromo, Mr. Jeffrey Chavez, Mr. Rhogie Eupeña, Mr. Lawrence Concepcion, Mr. Christian Espineda, Mr. John Oliver Rosario, Ms. Shairemaine Joy Amigable, and Ms. Medhelyn Dumbrique. Drawing on extensive field experience, the team delivered hands-on instruction and practical insights, ensuring students gained both the technical skills and real-world knowledge essential for effective emergency medical response.

Students demonstrated exceptional engagement and skill during the intensive EMT Training, actively participating in hands-on drills and realistic emergency simulations. These exercises not only honed their technical abilities but also strengthened teamwork, decision-making, and confidence under pressure, bridging the gap between classroom theory and real-world emergency response.

The program concluded with an inspiring message from Assistant Dean Prof. Alfredo Corpuz, who lauded the students’ commitment and perseverance throughout the training. He encouraged them to carry forward the core values of compassion, competence, and integrity as they prepare to serve as the next generation of emergency health service professionals.
