The Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (BSMLS) program of the University of Northern Philippines renewed its partnership with Barangay Villamar for extension services during a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing held on April 24, 2025.
Leading the ceremony were Dr. Joussie B. Bermio, Dean of the College of Health Sciences (CHS), Barangay Captain Albert Quilenderino Sr., BSMLS Program Head Mr. Ace Danielle C. Avero, and CHS Assistant Dean Prof. Alfredo Corpuz.
The renewed agreement strengthens the commitment between the University and the community, aiming to continue providing relevant health-related initiatives to Villamar residents.
Right after the MOA signing, the BSMLS program rolled out a training seminar on soap making, tapping into the skills of Medical Technologists by utilizing plant extracts. The activity sought to promote sustainable practices and encourage livelihood opportunities among locals, especially women.
Subsequently, a Women’s and Children’s Rights Seminar was conducted by Atty. Katrynn Louise Eder, Director of the Center for Gender and Development. The session highlighted the importance of empowering communities through legal education and advocacy.
According to the organizers, the extension services play a vital role in bridging academic expertise with the real needs of the community, while giving students a platform for meaningful engagement. “It’s not only about giving back but also about learning how we can make a lasting impact,” said Mr. Avero.
The partnership between UNP-CHS and Barangay Villamar continues to grow stronger, rooted in the shared goal of uplifting lives through education, health services, and community development.
